Latourell Falls - Oregon

Today I took the family on a hike to see some of Oregon's beautiful waterfalls. Latourell Falls is actually one of Oregon's three tallest falls with a height of 249 feet.

A short hike from the parking lot will bring you down to the base of the falls.

After viewing this beautiful waterfall, we headed up the trail to the upper falls. The hike was pretty steep, but the kids did great. After traveling about a mile up the mountain through some of the most georgeous forest, you reach the upper falls. I'll have to post pictures of the upper falls another time. I didn't get any good shots, which is a shame because I liked the upper falls much better. Maybe next time I'll bring my tripod up.

West Coast Game Park Safari - Bandon, OR

Over the July 4th weekend, we were lucky enough to visit this awesome wildlife petting park down in Bandon Oregon. Goats, llamas, peacocks, and dear roam around the park while you view the other wildlife in their cages.

These pictures were taken with my Canon DRebel XT with the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens.

Myles Baker - 1 month

Myles was born on October 5, 2009. He is number 26 of my 27 nieces and nephews. He is such a cute little guy. These pictures were taken for his blessing on November 1, 2009 outside his home.

When Amy asked me to take their pictures, I thought that the Mesa Arts Center would be a great location. This is one of my favorite places to take pictures as there are many great backdrops available. Thanks Mike and Amy for letting me take your pictures!

It had been awhile since doing a photo shoot, but I think that these turned out pretty well. It was nice to get back into photography after taking a little break.

Michael and JaNae were married in the Logan Temple on August 16, 2008. JaNae looked absolutely beautiful, and Mike wasn't that bad either.

Their reception was held at the Sherwood Hills resort just outside of Logan, Utah.

Large group photos can be challenging, especially with little children. I was actually surprised how well this went. It was getting hot and humid and still all the children were cooperative. Fun with water

If is finally warm enough for Jacob and Ben to ask for the water slide. Seeing as we do not have a swimming pool close by, and I'm not willing to sacrifice my entire backyard to build one, this water slide seems to do just fine. The boys will spend hours outside on this and Jacob asks for it almost every day. This was definitely worth buying.

Easter colors

Coloring Easter eggs is one of my favorite activities. I love making all the different colored eggs. The smell of vinegar always brings to mind images a brightly colored eggs sitting in a basket. All the kids like to help out, so we typically end up with around 5 dozen Easter eggs. Most of which get turned into deviled eggs for Easter dinner.

The Easter bunny brought our kids some webkinz animals. They absolutely love these little things and usually get on the computer every day to take care of them.

The girls looked beautiful in their Easter dresses. I sure am proud of these little princesses.

I can't belive that I have another 5 year old. Just a few more months and he'll be going to kindergarten. They sure do grow up fast.

Ben doesn't really like to have his picture taken. I told him that we would go to a really fun place to do pictures this time. He ended up having a lot of fun and we got some really good pictures.

Mardi Gras Murder Mystery

Last Friday, Sarah and I were invited to a murder mystery dinner with some of our friends. We were each assigned a character to dress up as and play their role for the evening. I was Cayenne Pepper, the family chef and aspiring tv star. Sarah played the role of Connika Gothika, an eccentric novelist and next door neighbor. Our host, Nikki, did a wonderful job with this event. The food was great, and we all had a lot of fun as we played the game. For more info on some of the other characters, check out Nikki's blog. If you have never been to one of these murder mysteries, I highly recommend it.

Thanks Nikki for hosting such a wonderful, fun party. It's not everyday you get to see Sarah dressed in gothic clothes.

Softball

Yesterday morning, I got together with some of the guys from church for a softball game. It was a fun time and I am happy that I did not strike out. After the game, we grilled up some hotdogs to eat with our families. It was a nice activity, but I am really sore today.

Jacob 3 Years Old

Jacob recently turned 3 years old. He is so much fun to have around. He is always being silly and trying to make every one laugh, especially at dinner time. Jacob is always wearing a superhero cape with no shirt. Right now he is really into Batman, Ninja Turtles, and video games.

For his birthday cake, I made him this Batman cake. I can tell that I am out of practice. This cake took me a few hours to decorate, and my hand was cramping up by the time I was finished.

Good Times Are Rolling This Way

Yesterday, Katie finally figured out how to roll over. Since then she hasn't stopped. Whenever we lay her on the ground she starts rolling. She will keep rolling in the same direction until she runs into something or finds something of interest on the floor. I guess it's time to really keep the floor clean and diaper changes are going to be more of a challenge now.

Sarah took her to the doctor this morning for her checkup. She now weighs 14 pounds and is in the 50 percentile for height and head circumference, and 36 percentile for weight.

Marcie, an awesome friend, asked me to help her shoot a wedding early next year. The happy couple was able to come to Phoenix for Thanksgiving and we did their engagment photos. I think that they turned out great. Marcie ended up with some of the best pictures, but here are some that I was able to capture.

Katie was blessed in church on October 21, 2007. She looked really cute in her white dress and bonnet. Sarah even put little white shoes on her little feet.

During the blessing, Katie started to get a little fussy, so her Papa stuck his finger in her mouth. That made her happy and she sucked on his finger for the remainder of the blessing.

Both sets of grandparents along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins came to see her. Afterwards, we were so busy entertaining that we didn't get any more pictures of her in the blessing dress. Finally I took time yesterday to get some pictures.

Sweet Tooth

The sweet smell of trick-or-treat candy has to be one of my favorites. I love the scent of that glorious mix of candy. Whenever I smell it, I think back to all the wonderful times of Halloweens past. It has to be one of the best parts of this holiday. If only I could capture that smell like I do this picture.

My Little Buddy

I had to post a picture of my little buddy, Benjamin. It seems like I've only been taking pictures of Katie and Joelle lately. Ben is turning out to be a really good kid. He loves to help carry in groceries. I really enjoy being his dad.

Kaite was born on August 8, 2007 at 2:23 pm. She was 8 lbs. 9 oz. and measured 21 inches. Katie has been wonderful so far. She is eating well and sleeps most of the time. Her cry is very soft and she does not let it out too often. Keep up the good work Katie!

Happy Mother

This is Sarah as we are getting ready to go in to have our baby on Aug 8, 2007. After 38 weeks, she is more than ready for that baby to come out. This is our fifth child, and all have been born at Paradise Valley Hospital in Phoenix, AZ.

Diaper Cake

My friends at Wells Fargo surprised us with this diaper cake. My kids started laughing when I told them what it was. Then they found the bubble wrap and were easily entertained for the next 30 minutes. All those diapers will be very useful.

Watermellon

This year I've decided to try some gardening. I read Mel Bartholomew's book All New Square Foot Gardening to get me started. His ideas on growing produce in square foot sections was interesting so I thought I would give it a try. His book metions growing vertically, instead of taking up a ton of space on the ground. I decided to give it a try with my watermellons. As you can see, the two watermellon plants have really taken off, covering most of the trellis. Right now I have one good sized watermellon, and a few small ones. I can't wait to taste them.

Mesa, AZ Temple

I woke up really early Sunday morning in order to get the the Mesa Temple to take this picture. Sunrise was around 5:20am and I wanted to be all set up and ready to go. I get to the temple and realize that my camera lens doesn't go wide enough to get the shot I want. I would have cut off the tops of the palm trees and that would look really bad.

I try moving back, but the fence around the temple grounds block my picture. Finally, I pull my Honda Civic in front of the gate, set up my tripod on the roof, and stand up there taking pictures. This way I was able to shoot over the fence line. Let me tell you, it's not easy setting up a tripod to full height on top of a Civic.

My sister-in-law ordered a 20x30 canvas print and it turned out really great.

Three Nephews - Urban Acid

I was driving around the other day and saw this industrial building that was being demolished. I thought this would be a great spot for a photo shoot with some older boys. I borrowed my nephews a few days ago and went back to the building. Most of it had been taken down, but there was still enough to work with.

It had been raining most of the day, unusual for Phoenix, AZ. The sky was really dark so I had to bump my ISO up to 400. I used my 50mm 1.4 lens and had the aperture betweeen 2.5 and 5.6.

I gave these pictures an Urban Acid look and left the noise in for a little grain effect.

Jake just recently turned 2. I finally got around to updating his portrait on the wall.

We went out on a photo shoot, just me and him. It was so much fun getting to spend time just the two of us. I ended up taking around 90 pictures, but ended up choosing the very first one I took for his portrait.
